Made by Bermondsey Tonic Water
MADE BY BTW: BERMONDSEY TONIC WATER IN BERMONDSEY, LONDON
WHY IT'S CRAVED
This four-ingredient tonic balances a bitter taste with noticeable notes of cinchona bark and a subtle sweetness. It has a unique flavour that leaves a satisfyingly clean after-palette. The tonic promises to be kind to your gin, keeping your tipple as close to its natural taste as possible.
Lawrence makes the tonic by hand following the original recipe from the Victorian era, infusing pure Cinchona bark, the original source of quinine. The Cinchona bark gives the tonic a earthy sweetness with Pu-erh tea notes and a characteristic amber colour.
The British extracted quinine from cinchona, the original anti-malarial medication. As its preventive effects for malaria became prescribed across the tropical part of the British Empire, the Victorians began mixing their tonic and gin rations, giving birth to the nation's favourite cocktail.
