Rubies in the Rubble
Jenny started Rubies in the Rubble in 2011 after she learned about the huge volumes of food that go to waste every year in the UK. After speaking to farmers, she learned that some of the crop they had was being rejected due to its shape and size, despite being perfectly fine to eat.
So she set off thinking about ways she could make use of surplus crop, and Rubies in the Rubble was born. Alicia joined a year later, and they began making chutneys with flavours inspired by farmers’ crop surpluses (think Hot Banana Chutney). Now, a small family business runs the chutney-making operation while Alicia and Jenny focus on working with farmers to source their ingredients and thinking of ways to expand the operation.
Made primarily using fresh ingredients, their chutneys are truly amazing, which is reflected by their popularity. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
